What is Reformer Pilates?
Reformer Pilates is a full-body, low-impact workout performed on a specialised piece of equipment called a reformer which is a cushioned carriage that slides along a frame using an adjustable system of springs, pulleys, straps, and a footbar. Unlike traditional mat Pilates, the reformer’s resistance can be dialled up or down, making it suitable for complete beginners through to high-performance athletes.
At PIYO Studios, every class focuses on controlled movement, proper spinal alignment, core activation, and breath connection, combining the mind-body benefits of classical Pilates with a dynamic, results-driven approach.
What are the benefits of Reformer Pilates?
Reformer Pilates delivers a wide range of physical and mental benefits, including:
- Core strength and deep stabiliser activation
- Improved posture and spinal alignment
- Increased muscle tone and lean strength
- Enhanced flexibility and range of motion
- Better balance, coordination, and proprioception
- Injury rehabilitation and prevention
- Low-impact, joint-friendly full-body conditioning
- Stress reduction and improved mind-body awareness
Because the reformer adapts to your body and ability, these benefits are accessible from your very first class.
Do I need to be fit or flexible to start?
Absolutely not. PIYO Studios has no expectations of you when you walk through the door. Our Essentials Reformer class is specifically designed for people who are brand new to Pilates or returning after a break. The reformer’s spring resistance is fully adjustable, and our instructors offer modifications for every exercise, so you are always working at the level that is right for you, not anyone else in the room.
Flexibility improves as a result of Reformer Pilates; you don’t need to bring any with you.
What is the difference between Essentials Reformer and Dynamic Reformer?
PIYO Studios offers three class formats tailored to your stage and goals:
- Essentials Reformer — Beginner-friendly and pregnancy-safe. Perfect for new or returning clients building a solid foundation with correct alignment, breathing, and safe movement patterns. (45 minutes)
- Dynamic Reformer — Intermediate level. Designed for clients with Reformer experience who are ready for more flowing sequences, greater strength challenges, and a full-body workout. Not prenatal-safe. (45 minutes)
- Pre + Post-Natal Reformer — Supportive classes for all stages of motherhood, focused on core stability, gentle strength, balance, and breath. Babies up to 12 months are welcome. (45 minutes)

How do I book a class?
Booking is simple. Download the Momence app (available on iOS and Android), log in, and search for PIYO Studios. From there, browse the weekly timetable and book the session that suits your schedule. Alternatively, visit piyostudios.com.au/timetable to view all available class times.
Tip: Set up your account in the app ahead of your first visit so check-in is quick and seamless when you arrive.
Do you have an introductory offer for first-timers?
Yes! Our intro offer — 21 Days of Unlimited Classes for $95 — is available exclusively for new clients and is the perfect way to experience everything PIYO Studios has to offer. Attend as many classes as you like across three weeks and find your rhythm with the reformer.
The introductory offer is non-refundable and non-transferable. It activates from the date of your first class and is valid for 21 days from that point. Clients who attempt to set up multiple accounts to purchase the offer more than once will have their packs cancelled, their accounts merged, and a credit applied for any remaining value. No refunds are offered.
Redeem your intro offer at momence.com or through the Momence app under PIYO Studios.
Do you sell gift vouchers?
Yes! Gift vouchers can be purchased for any amount via your account on the Momence platform. Vouchers are also available for collection directly from the studio, or we can mail them to you or your recipient.
Once you have purchased a voucher, email hello@piyostudios.com.au to let us know how you would like to proceed with delivery.
Can I transfer or share my class passes or membership with a friend or family member?
Unfortunately, class passes and memberships are non-transferable and cannot be shared. Each account and its credits are personal to the client who purchased them.
If you are unable to use your classes due to a medical reason or personal circumstance, please reach out to us directly at hello@piyostudios.com.au and we will do our best to find a suitable solution for you.
What should I wear to class?
Wear comfortable, form-fitting activewear that allows your instructor to check your alignment and form throughout the session. We recommend leggings, tights, or fitted shorts, paired with a singlet top or fitted t-shirt. Avoid loose, baggy clothing as it can get caught in the reformer springs or carriage.
You will not need footwear during class, grip socks are all you need on your feet.
Should I wear grip socks?
We strongly encourage wearing grip socks for two key reasons: hygiene and safety. Grip socks prevent slipping on the reformer’s surfaces and footbar, help you engage the correct muscles throughout exercises, and maintain a clean environment for all clients.
Grip socks are available for purchase at the studio if you forget yours. You are also welcome to bring your own.
What should I bring to my first class?
Here’s a quick checklist for your first visit:
- Grip socks (available to purchase at the studio if needed)
- A water bottle — you can refill it in our kitchen
- Comfortable, form-fitting activewear
- Your booking confirmed in the Momence app
There’s no need to bring a towel, although you are welcome to if you prefer. Leave your phone in your bag. A strict no-phones policy applies once class begins.
What time should I arrive?
If it is your first class at PIYO Studios, please arrive at least 10 minutes before the session begins. We do not have a full-time receptionist at the front desk, so please approach your trainer on arrival or wait to be collected from reception. Your instructor will settle you in, show you around the studio, and explain how the reformer works before you begin.
For all returning clients, aim to be ready at least 5 minutes before class. The doors close as soon as the session starts, and late entry may not be possible for safety reasons. For Yin Yoga in particular, once the doors are locked there is a strict no-entry policy so as not to disrupt other clients’ practice.
What is your cancellation policy?
PIYO Studios has a 6-hour cancellation window. If you cancel your booking within 6 hours of the class start time, or fail to attend without cancelling (a ‘no show’), you will forfeit that session from your pack. Unlimited membership holders will also be charged a $10 fee for late cancellations within this window.
We ask that you cancel as early as possible if you know you cannot attend — doing so frees up a spot for someone who may be on the waitlist and gives everyone a fair chance to get into class.
Important: Cancellations can only be made through the Momence studio bookings app. We are unable to accept cancellations via social media messages, SMS, voicemail, or email.
What happens if I am unwell or have COVID symptoms on the day of my class?
Please do not come to the studio if you are feeling unwell, have any COVID-19 symptoms, or have been in close contact with a confirmed case. Your health — and the health of our community — comes first.
Our 6-hour cancellation window is in place to give you time to cancel if your health changes unexpectedly. Cancellations made outside the 6-hour window are automatically returned to your account as a credit for future use. Cancellations made within the 6-hour window will be deducted from your pack, or, for unlimited members, a $15 fee will apply.
If you have an early-morning class booked and feel unwell before going to bed the night before, please cancel out of the class then — this allows waitlisted clients to be notified overnight and get into class.
How do waitlists work?
If a class you want is full, you can add yourself to the waitlist inside the Momence app. If a spot becomes available — at any point, including overnight for early-morning classes — the system will automatically move you into the class and send you a notification via email or text.
Important: By joining a waitlist, you accept responsibility for monitoring your booking status. If you are automatically added to a class you can no longer attend, you must remove yourself promptly. Failing to do so will result in a no-show and forfeiture of your session.
Hot tip: Make sure both email and text notifications are enabled in the Momence app so you receive alerts as quickly as possible.
Can I do Reformer Pilates if I have an injury or am recovering from one?
In many cases, yes — Reformer Pilates is well suited to injury rehabilitation and recovery due to its low-impact, adjustable nature. However, if your injury significantly affects your normal movement patterns, we ask that you obtain medical clearance from your physiotherapist, osteopath, or GP before attending classes.
For minor or historical injuries, please inform your instructor before the class begins. They will offer appropriate modifications to ensure you are moving safely and effectively. If your instructor has concerns about your injury, they may ask you to seek further medical advice before returning to class, please do not take this personally, as your long-term wellbeing is always the priority.
Is Reformer Pilates good for back pain?
Reformer Pilates is widely used in the management and prevention of back pain. The method focuses heavily on building core strength, improving spinal mobility, and training the deep stabilising muscles that support the lumbar and thoracic spine, all of which contribute to a healthier, more resilient back.
If you have a specific back condition, we recommend consulting your health professional before starting classes. Please also let your instructor know so they can tailor exercises appropriately for you.
I'm pregnant — can I attend classes?
Congratulations! Pregnant clients are welcome at PIYO Studios under the following guidelines:
- Up to 12 weeks: You may attend all reformer class formats.
- After 12 weeks: Due to the dynamic nature of our standard classes, pregnant clients are asked to attend Essentials Reformer classes only (which are pregnancy-safe), or our dedicated Pre + Post-Natal Reformer classes.
- Yin Yoga: All Yin Yoga classes are suitable throughout pregnancy.
Please discuss the suitability of Reformer Pilates during your pregnancy with your doctor or midwife before attending, and always let your instructor know you are pregnant so they can make appropriate modifications throughout the session.
How long after giving birth can I return to classes?
Post-natal recovery is personal and should always be guided by your GP or obstetrician. As a general guide:
- Vaginal delivery: Gentle exercise may begin from approximately 6 weeks post-birth, following medical clearance.
- Caesarean delivery: Medical clearance is required, with gradual exercise typically beginning from 8–10 weeks.
Our Pre + Post-Natal Reformer classes are designed specifically for this stage of recovery and welcome babies up to 12 months old. You are also welcome to come solo if that suits you better
Is there an age limit?
Clients must be 14 years of age or older to attend PIYO Studios classes. Our dynamic and higher-intensity classes are not suitable for young, still-developing bodies.
There is no upper age limit. Our classes cater to people of all ages and fitness levels. If keeping your body moving and staying strong is your goal, we would love to help you get there.
How often should I attend classes?
Exercise is deeply personal, and the right frequency for you depends on your current fitness level, your goals, and how your body responds. That said, here are some useful starting points:
- 1–2 sessions per week gives your body and mind time to learn the movements, adapt to the reformer, and recover well between classes.
- 2–3 sessions per week is widely regarded as the sweet spot for steady, sustainable progress in strength, posture, and flexibility.
- 3–4 sessions per week may suit those with specific performance, body composition, or rehabilitation goals, provided recovery is factored in.
Consistency matters more than frequency. Two regular sessions per week, every week, will deliver far better results than five sessions one week and none the next. Our team is always happy to help you plan a schedule that suits your lifestyle and aspirations, just ask your instructor.
How soon will I see results from Reformer Pilates?
Joseph Pilates famously said: ‘In 10 sessions you feel the difference, in 20 you see the difference, in 30 you have a whole new body.’ Many clients at PIYO Studios report feeling stronger, more supported, and more body-aware after just 4–6 classes. Visible improvements in posture, core strength, and muscle tone often follow within 6–12 weeks of consistent practice.
Results depend on attendance frequency, effort level, and the goals you are working toward. Our intro offer — 21 Days Unlimited for $95 — is designed to give you enough consistent exposure to the reformer to genuinely feel and notice a difference.
Can I combine Reformer Pilates with other types of exercise?
Absolutely. Reformer Pilates complements a wide range of other training modalities beautifully. It is particularly effective as cross-training for runners, gym-goers, swimmers, and team sport athletes — improving core stability, mobility, and movement quality in ways that can directly enhance performance and reduce injury risk.
If you are doing high-intensity training on other days, Reformer Pilates can also serve as an active recovery session, helping you maintain movement and mobility without placing excessive load on the body. Just be mindful of overall training volume and give yourself adequate rest days.
Where are you located, and is there parking?
PIYO Studios is located at Unit 5/25 Rutherford Ct, Maddingley VIC 3340. When entering through the gates, customer parking is directly to your left. Please do not park in numbered bays, as these are reserved for staff and neighbouring tenants. There is also ample free parking available on the surrounding streets.
What facilities does the studio have?
PIYO Studios is equipped with everything you need for a comfortable visit:
- A kitchen area with water bottle refill facilities
- A bathroom where you can also change before or after class
- Reformer beds set up and ready to go for each session
We keep the studio clean and welcoming so you can focus entirely on your practice.
Are private sessions available?
Yes! Private one-on-one sessions can be arranged outside of regular group class hours. Private sessions are ideal if you would like more personalised attention on your technique, are working with a specific injury or post-operative recovery, or would like to fast-track your understanding of the reformer before joining group classes.
To make a booking or discuss what a private session might look like for you, please contact us at hello@piyostudios.com.au or call 0483 927 932.
What is your phone policy in class?
We love a great Instagram moment, feel free to snap a photo or video before class and tag us @piyostudios! However, once the session begins, a strict no-phones policy is in place. Please leave your phone in your bag and ensure it is on silent or switched off before the class starts. Nothing breaks the flow of a session — or a client’s zen state in Yin Yoga — quite like a phone ringing mid-movement.
